Ephesians 2:8-10 — Saved for Something
**Ephesians 2:8-10 — "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."**
These three verses are a masterclass in the gospel. Let's break them down.
**Verses 8-9 — Salvation Is a Gift**
Paul couldn't be clearer: salvation is entirely God's work. Grace is the source. Faith is the instrument. And even that faith isn't something we manufacture — it's a gift. The phrase "not a result of works" eliminates every religious system that says "do enough and you'll be accepted." The gospel says "you're accepted, now go live like it."
**Verse 10 — But You're Saved FOR Something**
Here's where many stop reading. We love verses 8-9 because they free us from performance-based religion. But verse 10 gives us purpose. "We are his workmanship" — the Greek word is *poiema*, from which we get "poem." You're not a project. You're a masterpiece.
Notice the order: we're not saved BY good works, but we're saved FOR good works. Works don't produce salvation; salvation produces works. A tree doesn't produce fruit to become a tree — it produces fruit because it already is one.
**"Prepared beforehand"** means God didn't save you and then figure out what to do with you. He prepared specific good works for you before you took your first breath. Your life has divine intentionality.
**Application:** Are you living in verses 8-9 without verse 10? Grace isn't just a safety net — it's a launchpad. What good works might God have prepared for you to walk in today?
